Dr. Sebat, the founder and director of Kritikus Foundation received his M.D. from Northwestern University School of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine and Critical Care at Los Angeles County Hospital, University of Southern California Medical Center. Dr. Sebat is a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine and American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine Medical Emergency Team Task Force.
Formerly the Director of Critical Care Services at Shasta Regional Medical Center in Redding, California, for twenty-four years, he is currently the Director of Intensive Care at Fremont-Rideout Hospital Group in Marysville, California.
He brought the basic approach to the treatment and care of critically-ill patients, which is often underutilized, back to the bedside by training healthcare professionals in earlier recognition of critical illness and the application of basic therapy early in the disease process. He refers to this is as the Vince Lombardy (former coach of the Green Bay Packers) approach to critical care, "You have to learn to block and tackle before you attempt the forward pass."
Dr. Sebat has published, lectured and consulted nationally on the early recognition of critical illness and programs and protocols to improve the care of these patients within the pre-hospital and hospital setting.
